At least 15 people lost their lives on Thursday in a devastating accident in Manitoba, Canada. A bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck at an intersection near the town of Carberry, located about 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The passengers on the bus were on their way to a casino in Carberry. Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed that “at least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.”
Ten other individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Both drivers survived the crash, but authorities have not yet revealed who was at fault. Photos from the scene showed destroyed wheelchair seats and walking frames near tarpaulins covering the victims’ bodies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences, saying his thoughts are with the injured and the families of those who lost loved ones. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also expressed her sympathy.
