Elon Musk Admits Regret Over Harsh Posts About Trump: “They Went Too Far”
June 11, 2025 — Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk acknowledged on Wednesday that some of his recent social media posts targeting President Donald Trump may have crossed a line. In a post on X, Musk wrote, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
This admission follows a heated public dispute between Musk and Trump, which gained attention after Musk criticized the president’s controversial spending legislation — dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — soon after stepping down from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk had been working in the administration with a focus on reducing government waste.
Explosive Claims and Online Firestorm
At the peak of the feud, Musk published a now-deleted post claiming Trump’s name appeared in Justice Department documents related to the late Jeffrey Epstein. He wrote, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
The allegation prompted immediate backlash and further strained the relationship between the two.
Musk also made other pointed remarks, including claiming that Trump would not have won the election without his support and accusing the president of being “ungrateful.” In another post, Musk even floated the idea that Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President J.D. Vance.
Trump Responds with Sharp Words
Trump responded to Musk’s criticism in interviews and on social media. Speaking to Fox News, the president said, “Elon’s totally lost it.” In a separate Oval Office press appearance, Trump expressed frustration over Musk’s stance on the spending bill, arguing that the tech mogul had previously expressed no objection to its contents — until electric vehicle subsidies were reduced. Musk rejected that assertion, calling it “false.”
Trump also addressed the matter on Truth Social, stating: “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”
Signs of a Truce?
Despite the sharp rhetoric, there are signs the conflict may be cooling. This week, Trump appeared to extend an olive branch, saying, “We had a great relationship and I wish him well — very well, actually.”
In response, Musk reacted to a clip of Trump’s comments with a simple heart emoji — a possible signal of reconciliation.
Further easing tensions, Musk publicly supported Trump’s handling of recent anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, signaling that both men might be looking to lower the temperature after weeks of escalating hostilities.
Looking Ahead
As both figures remain central to the political and tech landscapes, observers are closely watching to see if this temporary truce will hold — or if the friction will flare up once more. With the upcoming press conference announced following Musk’s departure from the government, the next chapter in their evolving relationship may be just around the corner.
